“Before He Forgot”

If you could change the ending of any book, which one would it be?

📰 June 16, 2026 — 8:36 a.m.

Sitting while the vacuum noise fills the room.

Earlier I found myself wondering why I’ve been feeling different lately.

I think it’s because things matter.

Everything matters.

The smiles.

The quick hi’s.

The silences.

The memories people leave behind.

The more I stay in the moment, the more I feel the weight of those things.

I don’t read often.

But one of the few books that stayed with me was Flowers for Algernon.

Charlie felt real.

What always stuck with me was the ending.

After everything he experienced, after becoming aware of life in a way he never had before, he had to forget it all again.

He became what he was at the beginning of the journey.

Part of me always wished he could have stayed there a little longer.

Not because life suddenly became perfect.

But because he was awake to it.

He could feel it.

The joy.

The sadness.

The embarrassment.

The loneliness.

The beauty.

Maybe that’s why the ending hurts.

Not because Charlie lost intelligence.

Because he lost awareness.

Lately I’ve been thinking awareness can be heavy.

When you pay attention, everything seems to matter more.

The smiles.

The conversations.

The people.

The memories.
