It’s not sucking. It’s data.

Daily writing prompt
How do you stay motivated when learning something new?

📓 May 8, 2026 — 7:37 a.m.

A little more rested today.

I tried taking most of yesterday off from selling paper and plastic bags.

Honestly…

it helped.

I’ve never stayed motivated very long when learning something new.

I’m impatient.

And I hate sucking at things.

Hate it.

That’s part of why I procrastinated for so many years.

But lately…

I’ve started seeing it differently.

Nothing is free.

You pay a price to learn.

And the price is this:

At first…

you’re going to be bad.

But even that framing is wrong.

It’s not “sucking.”

It’s data.

You’re collecting information.

Seeing where you went wrong.

Making adjustments.

Trying again.

Little by little…

patterns start appearing.

And eventually…

you stop feeling like you’re failing.

You start feeling like you’re learning.

That changed something for me.

Because once I stopped treating learning like punishment…

it started feeling more like play.

Like being a little kid again.

Not trying to prove anything.

Just exploring.

  1. Drawing or sketching. I am bad at it. I don’t draw :) anymore.

    1. I understand that. I think a lot of us stop because the beginning feels rough. But rough isn’t failure — it’s just the first layer of learning. Even tiny sketches count.
