“What If Today Was My Last Day?”

What’s one thing you’re doing right now that future-you will thank you for—even if today-you is tired of it?

Honestly, part of me wants to say: nothing.

I spent a decade thinking school would get me to become a paid artist—and it didn’t. It got me degrees. I got a college degree from Cerritos College and a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach… and I’m still out here selling plastic bags and paper bags.

So yeah. Fuck.

But when I zoom out, I can see a few things that future-me might actually respect:

I’m writing and drawing every day. I’m posting. I’m saving money through Acorns. I’m trying to become more structured and disciplined instead of living off chaos and hope.

And I think the deeper thing is this:

I’m starting to treat each day like it matters—like it’s my last day—because if I approach life that way, maybe I take more out of it. Maybe I stop taking days for granted. Maybe I stop letting life just happen to me.

So the thing future-me might thank me for isn’t one perfect move.

It’s the decision to make the day count, even when I’m tired and bitter and disappointed.

Reader question: What’s one small thing you’re doing right now that future-you will thank you for?
