“🌮 Six Tacos”

Daily writing prompt
What’s the best local dish you’ve ever eaten while traveling?

August 1, 2026 – 7:44 a.m.

I am sitting outside this morning with my sister’s dog…

Scooby.

The brown pit bull.

She and my mother are off to Las Vegas…

Viva Las Vegas…

to visit my mother’s younger sister and her daughter.

My cousin just gave birth to her second son.

That’s pretty cool.

I’m happy for her.

But…

somebody has to take care of Scooby.

The sun is starting to hit now.

It’s yellow…

with a little tint of white around it.

I like the silence.

But…

that’s me.

Anyways…

Here in Los Angeles…

it’s become like a little Mexico.

Maybe…

Mexico’s little brother.

So when I think about a local dish…

for me…

it’s not found while traveling.

It’s found on Florence Avenue.

There’s a car wash.

Then, sometime after six in the evening…

it transforms.

Lights go up like Christmas lights…

and suddenly there’s a little taco stand.

For me…

it’s three tacos de asada…

and three tacos al pastor.

Simple.

Morning…

If you’re having tacos today…

say hello for me.

I’ve run out of coffee…

so I guess that’s where I’m headed next.

Reader Question

If someone asked you to take them to one place that tastes like home, where would you take them… and what would you order?
