I’m in bed.
Laptop resting on top of the blankets.
My orange furball of a cat is sitting on the recliner chair like he owns the entire studio.
Honestly…
he probably thinks he does.
The coffee just finished brewing.
⸻
The prompt says to hit 5,000 steps today.
The funny thing is, I walk every day already because of my job delivering plastic and paper bags across Los Angeles.
Movement has become part of survival.
But even then, I still like the idea of people all around the world deciding to move just a little bit today.
A strange little community of humans choosing motion.
Choosing calibration.
⸻
I remember hearing former NBA player John Salley say that basketball players should treat their bodies like Formula 1 cars.
The food.
The sleep.
The maintenance.
The precision.
At first I thought:
“Well… I’m not an athlete.”
But maybe that isn’t the point.
Maybe taking care of your body is simply respecting the machine that carries your consciousness through life.
⸻
The steps matter.
The rest matters.
The maintenance matters.
Even emotionally.
Especially emotionally.
⸻
Maybe walking is more than exercise.
Maybe it’s calibration.
Learning traction on the highway of life.
LOL.
