“One day I won’t see the sky anymore”

Daily writing prompt
What’s a moment that made you question reality?

📓 May 16, 2026 — 7:54 a.m.

Saturday morning.

I should be leaving soon to go sell plastic and paper bags.

The daily grind.

Simba’s at the window.

Coffee brewing.

And I keep thinking about something that happened yesterday.

I was sitting in my van parked outside.

Eating Pollo Loco.

And everything felt…

normal.

Blue sky.

Wind.

Birds everywhere.

People walking around.

I could feel the seat underneath me.

Taste the food in my mouth.

Hear the city moving around me.

And then I had this weird thought.

One day…

none of this will exist for me anymore.

A hundred years from now…

I’ll be gone.

Just like all the people before me who probably had moments exactly like this.

Eating outside.

Feeling the wind.

Looking at the sky.

Hearing birds.

Thinking about life.

Now they’re gone too.

So when people say:

“Be realistic.”

I honestly wonder sometimes…

what even is reality?

What is this moment?

A thing that exists briefly…

before time takes it away.

And weirdly…

that thought doesn’t make me sad.

It makes me appreciate being here at all.

Because one day…

I won’t see the sky anymore.

I won’t hear the birds anymore.

I won’t feel the wind anymore.

So while I’m here…

I want to notice it.
