“I’m glad I tried”

📓 Tuesday, May 5, 2026 — 6:38 p.m.
Today I was thinking about how much I enjoyed watching Michael at my local theater with my parents.

My parents are Mexican.

They don’t speak English.

But I thought:

“With Michael… I don’t think it’ll matter.”

It didn’t.

We showed up thirty minutes late.

As expected.

My dad ran late doing deliveries.

Sitting there in the darkness…

Michael playing with Bubbles the monkey…

I started laughing.

So did my mom.

I got us some wings.

What stayed with me wasn’t just the movie.

It was why we went.

The idea came to me Monday.

I was watching a Lakers video on YouTube.

The team was having a cookout together.

And I thought:

“What if something simple like that could help my family?”

So I invited everyone.

My mom.

My dad.

My younger sister.

Everyone agreed.

Then Friday came.

“I can’t go. My ears hurt.” — my sister.

Maybe they did.

Maybe they didn’t.

I don’t know.

But sitting there with my parents…

watching them laugh…

having a good time…

I realized something.

Maybe I need to stop focusing only on what didn’t happen…

and appreciate what did.

My family has never been stable.

For a lot of reasons.

But for one night…

we went to the movies together.

And honestly?

I’m glad I tried.
