Small Things Become Big Things

📰 Wednesday, May 28, 2026 — 10:49 p.m.

I’m parked on a side street somewhere in Hawthorne.

Summer has arrived.

At least that’s what it feels like.

I feel well.

That sounds simple.

But for years it wasn’t.

In the past I would crash in the middle of the day.

Every day.

Wake up tired.

Stay tired.

Then wonder why.

Burgers.

Soda.

Bread.

Fried food.

Donuts.

I thought food was just something that stopped hunger.

I didn’t understand it was also building tomorrow’s version of me.

The strange thing is that once I started changing small things, bigger things started changing too.

Energy.

Mood.

Focus.

Movement.

The same thing happens with money.

Small sums become larger sums through time.

Investments grow.

But lately I’ve been realizing that money isn’t the only thing that compounds.

Health compounds.

Writing compounds.

Art compounds.

Confidence compounds.

Even pain compounds if you don’t learn from it.

Maybe that’s why some of the worst things that happen to us eventually become useful.

Not because they were good.

But because they leave a color behind that changes how we move through life afterward.

I think that’s what I’ve been noticing lately.

The small things becoming big things.

Maybe that’s all growth really is.

Tiny actions repeated long enough that one day they no longer look tiny.
