I remember watching the Olympics as a kid.
Not the whole thing.
Just the moments.
There was the U.S. women’s gymnastics team.
They weren’t favored.
One of the gymnasts had an injured ankle.
Still went out there.
Still performed.
Still landed.
And that moment sealed the gold.
That’s what stayed with me.
Not the score.
The moment.
Then there was basketball.
The Dream Team—Jordan, Magic, Bird.
I didn’t fully understand it back then.
I just knew I was watching something different.
Later, the Redeem Team.
LeBron. Kobe. Durant.
A different kind of pressure.
A different kind of redemption.
And track.
Michael Johnson in those gold Nikes.
Running like he was chasing something no one else could see.
Then Usain Bolt.
Not even looking like he was trying.
Like the race was already over before it started.
That’s why I like those sports.
Gymnastics. Basketball. Track.
Because they’re not just sports.
They’re stories.
Moments where everything comes down to one question:
Can you be your best…
when it matters most?
Reader question
What’s a moment you’ve seen—sports or life—where everything came down to one chance?
