People talk about improving a community like it’s one thing.
Like if you explain it enough,
people will understand.
But I don’t think it works like that.
People don’t change as a group.
They change one by one.
You can’t force someone to see themselves differently.
You can only offer them the option.
We’re not just our labels.
Not our trauma.
Not our environment.
We’re what we choose.
So maybe improving a community
isn’t about fixing everyone.
Maybe it’s about creating spaces
where people can choose differently.
I think it would be cool to have a community center.
Funded by the community.
Not just one person in charge,
but people building something together.
A place where kids can explore art.
Not just as a hobby—
but as a way to express themselves.
Maybe even as a future.
And writing too.
Not as schoolwork.
But as a way of thinking.
A way to take what’s inside your head
and put it in front of you.
So you can actually see it.
Understand it.
Reshape it.
Because when you start understanding yourself,
you start understanding other people too.
And maybe then…
things begin to shift.
But then again—
who am I to say any of this.
I’m still figuring it out myself.
Reader question
Do you think people change together… or one by one?
