There was a time when my answer would’ve been easy:
Best Buy.
Tuesday releases.
Five movies a week.
It wasn’t really about the films.
It was the ritual. The rush. The plastic wrap crackle.
I shut that down. It was too much.
Now?
Guitar Center.
Not because I’m a musician.
Because I’ve started hearing.
I bought wired Sennheiser headphones recently and realized something uncomfortable —
Bluetooth is convenient, but wired sound is honest.
You hear texture. Breath. Room tone. Imperfections.
Once you hear it, you can’t un-hear it.
If I went on a spree now, I wouldn’t buy movies.
I’d buy:
A guitar I don’t yet know how to play.
A keyboard just to press real keys.
A proper headphone amp.
And a few wired headphones for family members so they can hear the difference too.
Not louder.
Clearer.
I used to shop for escape.
Now I’d shop for depth.
That’s the difference.
Reader question:
If money wasn’t the issue, would you shop for status… or for something that deepens your senses?
