The item I was incredibly attached to as a youth was my Super Nintendo.
Back then, arcades were a big deal. I was an early teen and I played arcade games a lot, so having a Super Nintendo for the first time felt insane—because now the games weren’t just “out there.” They were in my house.
I still remember the commercials for Mortal Kombat—the music, the hype, the whole vibe. You’d play it at the arcade, then suddenly you could play it at home. Same with Street Fighter II. It was great fun. Simpler times.
What became of it?
I still have my console. It’s yellowish now, and people call it “retro,” which is funny. To me it’s still just my Super Nintendo—the one I played in my time—never thinking it would one day be labeled like a museum piece.
I also still have Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II Turbo.
So yeah… it was a lot of fun.
