If I could invent a holiday, I’d call it The Good Neighbor Holiday.
Especially here in Los Angeles, most of us don’t really know our neighbors anymore. We live right next to each other but move like ghosts — polite nods, no real connection.
Back in Mexico, my family tells me it’s different. They’ll close off a block just to celebrate, grill some food, play music, and hang out. No occasion. Just life.
So here’s how I imagine it — one day a year, every neighborhood in every city does the same: open the driveway, share a plate, check in on someone down the street. Offer help. Trade stories. Remember you’re surrounded by humans, not strangers.
Because honestly, there’s nothing to lose by being kind.
There is nothing to lose.
