What makes a good neighbor?
A hello.
That’s what I’ve learned.
In Los Angeles, most people keep to themselves —
doors closed, faces tired, eyes somewhere else.
But my mom always said, say hi to people.
It’s simple, but it matters.
A hello is an opening.
A window you didn’t know was there.
It can lead to a small smile,
a wave,
a short talk that reminds you
you’re not as alone as you think.
A good neighbor doesn’t have to do much —
just acknowledge you exist.
Respect the space,
share a little warmth.
Because kindness doesn’t need a conversation.
Sometimes it just needs a “hello.”
