I think what makes a person unique is the ability to look somebody in the eye and hear them speak to you in whatever tone they choose, while recognizing that their tone may be rooted in a past we do not see.
But if that person becomes conscious of it and is able to explain to themselves why they are the way they are, and in some way understand other people beyond just how they sound, I believe that is what sometimes makes people unique.
Also, the ability to not take life so seriously matters. Life is serious in the sense that you have to pay bills, live, and function, but sometimes we add a little extra mustard to the hot dog and melt everything around us.
