“The Things That Annoy Us Become the Things We Miss”

Daily writing prompt
What makes you laugh?

Sometimes what makes me laugh isn’t the joke itself.

It’s what it reminds me of.

I remember a scene from Meet Joe Black where Joe asks Anthony Hopkins’ character what he misses about his wife.

And instead of saying something deep, he says something simple.

He talks about how one time she farted in her sleep and woke herself up.

And he laughs.

He says those are the things he misses.

That always stuck with me.

Because in the moment, those little things can feel like nothing… or even annoying.

The habits.

The quirks.

The random stuff people do.

I think about my cousin sometimes.

He used to knock on my window on the weekends and say,

“Hey fool, let’s go play basketball,”

or

“Let’s go get some burgers.”

Back then it just felt normal.

Now… it feels like something else.

It’s funny how something small can go from:

“This is nothing”

to

“I wish I could experience that one more time.”

I think that’s what makes me laugh now.

Not just jokes.

But the little human moments that don’t seem important…

until they are.

Reader question

What’s something small someone did that used to feel normal… but now means a lot more?
