I do not believe in destiny/fate in the traditional sense.
Because I’ve watched “fate” get created in real time — by the beliefs we swallow without testing.
When I was told school might not be for you, you’re too old to go back to school, your ideas are good but lower your expectations because the fall will hurt and it might break you… these were ideas given to me. Were they intentionally trying to sabotage me? No. But ideas can make you or break you.
I’ve learned you need context to understand an idea, but the most important part is this: you need to test the idea. In all cases — always, always test ideas.
Otherwise, when you accept the negative, it does become your fate. It lowers your desire to try, and it can be unconscious.
It doesn’t mean if you do everything right you’ll be great. It just means if you shoot high you will hit something rather than nothing.
Fate/destiny is an unknown variable — and your effort equals possibilities. Not because of the number of attempts, but because you can create positive habits, which then can turn into skills if you consciously build structure little by little.
Small things compound.
And maybe the better fate/destiny isn’t a “perfect life” — maybe it’s improving your outlook, knowing yourself better, and realizing you’re not who you thought you were.
You are more than you think… if only you apply yourself to your ideas and test relentlessly.
Reader question: What’s one belief you accepted as “truth” that you never actually tested?
