“Give Me Your Phone” — Best Gift I Didn’t See Coming”

Daily writing prompt
Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

Two years ago, I got one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.

My brother was in town from Mexico (Chipilo). He comes down a couple times a year for about a month, helps my dad on the plastic bag route, and we were running deliveries together.

One day he goes, “Alright, dude — I’m gonna hook you up for your birthday.”

I’m like, “Okay… whatever.”

Then he says, “Give me your phone.” He didn’t have data, so he used my Wi-Fi/hotspot. We’re driving, sunlight hitting the streets, laughing, and he keeps telling me, “Stop being distracted.” (He knows I look around too much when I drive. ADHD vibes.)

Later he goes, “It’s set up. Tonight I’m giving you your present.”

I’m like, “What are you talking about?”

Then he finally tells me: “We’re going to see the Clippers.”

I’m a Laker fan, so I’m like, “Bro…”

He goes, “I know. Lakers tickets aren’t that affordable right now. Trust me — just come.”

So we pull up to the Intuit Dome. It was still new at the time and they had all these rules — bracelets, scanning, putting your info into an app, all that.

We get checked in…and I notice we keep going lower and lower and lower.

And I’m like, “Where the fuck are we going?”

Then the staff hits us with: “You’re VIP.”

I look at my brother like, “What the fuck?”

He tries to play dumb and goes, “Nah, nah… there was a discount.”

Turns out the seats were crazy good — not right on the court, but like a level above it. And the wild part?

Free food. Free drinks. Unlimited.

Filet mignon, whatever you wanted. Just keep grabbing plates.

It was honestly one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.

And on the way out he goes, “Don’t ever say I don’t get you a great present.”

LOL.
