My first computer was in 2001. Before that, I never used a computer. I didn’t even have a cell phone. It was as old school as it gets.
I was working at Dodger Stadium as an usher, and I didn’t care about tech at all. I remember my friend Alfred from East L.A. telling me, “Bro, you need to get a computer.” And I was like, “Why?”
You have to remember: this was the era where you needed that filter you plugged into the wall so you could use the internet and still get phone calls. None of that made sense to me back then.
I went to Best Buy and bought a laptop—paid like a thousand bucks. I had no idea what I was buying. I didn’t know about RAM, hard drives, any of that. It was just a Windows PC and I was hyped.
What I loved most was that I could watch movies on it. So I bought some DVDs and mostly used the laptop for movie watching and web browsing. I remember thinking, “Oh my God… I can connect to the world.” 😂
Question: Do you remember your first computer—and what did you use it for?
