“I Am Becoming Conscious of Now”

Side-profile pencil sketch with handwritten references to “Pride & Prejudice” and “Mr. Darcy.”

Handwritten journal sketch of Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice alongside reflections about slowing down, presence, and becoming conscious of the moment.

📓 May 20, 2026 — 4:47 p.m.

I am sitting in my dimly lit studio.

Not sad.

Not exactly.

More numb.

Like I’m inside my body but also slightly disconnected from it.

A warm pressure around my eyes.

Like exhaustion wrapping itself around me quietly.

I passed out in my chair for about an hour.

Legs stretched over the ottoman.

Movie playing:

Pride & Prejudice.

I used to laugh at movies like this.

Back in 2006, a girlfriend once said:

“Oh, how romantic this film is.”

I laughed.

I was a young man.

Now something feels different.

I think I am becoming conscious of now.

Not tomorrow.

Not ten years from now.

Now.

I used to live almost entirely in:

* pressure

* fear

* survival

* the future

Or what I assumed would become:

no future.

So I only thought about:

today’s problem

today’s stress

today’s pressure

Move.

Hurry.

Catch up.

But now…

I notice moments.

The warmth of a room.

The sound of Scooby barking outside.

The feeling of sinking into my chair.

The light hitting the walls.

The strange calmness of a movie playing while my mind slowly untangles itself.

Everything is temporary.

And somehow…

that realization is no longer making me panic.

It’s making me pay attention.

I think I spent years trying to force life.

Force success.

Force healing.

Force meaning.

Now I’m beginning to wonder if life is not always something to force…

but something to experience while it is here.

Maybe flow is not something you create.

Maybe flow is what appears when you stop interrupting yourself.

I think I am becoming conscious of now.

And honestly?

That feels new to me.

Have you ever realized you spent so much time worrying about life… that you forgot to actually experience it?
