“Right Before the Rain” ⭐

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite type of weather?

Some people like bright sunny days.

Me? I like when it’s about to rain.

The sky turns gray — not just one gray, but different gradients of it moving slowly across the clouds. The air gets heavy. Quiet. You can hear the first distant rumble of thunder somewhere far away.

Some people say that kind of weather makes them depressed.

For me, it does the opposite.

It relaxes me.

I sit in my chair in the studio, a hot cup of coffee next to me. My feet on the ottoman. My cat purring somewhere above my head.

Outside the window, the rain starts falling.

That’s the moment I put on a movie.

Sometimes something strange and beautiful like Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro.

Other times something darker like The Silence of the Lambs.

I don’t know why those movies fit that weather.

They just do.

Rain outside.

Coffee in the air.

A quiet room.

That’s a good moment.

  1. Silence of the Lambs is one of my all time favorites! To Wit: Did you ever hear the one about the cannibal that was a late arrival to the dinner party? He received a cold shoulder.
